Bringing Your Dream Home to Life

Founder/Owner

As Founder/Owner of Sagebuild, Doug has set a tone for the company culture that creates an environment where employees truly love the work they perform and are encouraged to be passionate about what they do.  Over time, Doug has had direct responsibility for over 250 custom homes and many small commercial projects in the central Virginia area.  Most of his projects have been completed in Charlottesville and the surrounding Albemarle County.  Lately he has been heavily focused in Crozet, Nelson County, Fluvanna County, Augusta County, and Waynesboro also.   Doug has been a leading advocate and promoter of environmentally sensitive and sustainable building practices.  He participated as a charter builder of Earthcraft Homes in the early 2000’s and built the first LEED Certified Home in Virginia.  He has served on the Board of Directors for the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association and various other community organizations.

Doug started with a small building company immediately after graduating from the University of Tennessee (Chattanooga) in 1985.  Two years later he founded his first company called Artisan Homes which later evolved into Artisan Construction based out of Charlottesville.  He sold his interest in the company in 2013.  Shortly after selling, he continued in the construction industry as a consultant and owner’s representative and created Sagebuild Consulting LLC.  Before long, he realized that he still wanted to actively be involved in the actual construction of projects and not just to serve as a consultant.  So, Doug added licenses and certifications for Sagebuild to serve as licensed contractor for both residential and commercial projects.  These days, Doug leads Sagebuild through a small number of custom-built homes each year…usually six or less homes while also overseeing a small number of commercial endeavors and investments also.

Doug is blessed to have a large family with his wife and five children.  At this point, Doug and his wife, Megan are empty nesters residing in the Crozet community of Albemarle County.
